The annual issue on African Parliamentary Studies published in the International Journal of Parliamentary Studies aims to engage in debates on parliament and legislation related to Africa. It presents original research that advances the conversation and discussion of parliament and legislative affairs on the African continent by practitioners in the democratic governance space and academic researchers in political science, history, and parliamentary and legislative studies.

Articles in the annual issue on Parliamentary Studies demonstrate innovative contributions to the field of legislation and parliamentary affairs in Africa, while also making theoretical, conceptual, and contextual contributions to the field. While single-country case studies are accepted, the articles also demonstrate international relevance both for the continent and globally.

The research articles are relevant to all audiences, both academic and non-academic, and are written in a manner that is easily understood by all. This means that all research articles in the issue balance theory, empirical analysis and practice, but especially seek to offer innovative insights that can drive debate in parliament and legislative affairs on the continent.

The Annual Issue on Parliamentary Studies, therefore, aims to be the premier publication on parliamentary studies in Africa by promoting an interdisciplinary approach to the study of parliaments and legislative systems on the continent. We therefore accept empirical submissions from scholars, both within and outside the continent, across the social sciences and humanities disciplines, as long as they are dedicated to the study of parliament and legislative systems on the continent. The AFRIPAL Annual Issue on Parliamentary Studies is published in partnership with the International Journal of Parliamentary Studies.
